Tesla Motors - 2009 Forging Ahead
The 2009 Tesla Roadster, the all-electric supercar, was tested this month in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, and we reported very positive results of this road test in our Motoring category. 2008 was the start of the commercial journey for Tesla Motors with the release of its first production Roadster, and they finished 2008 delivering close to 150 cars to customers.
By mid 2009, Tesla Motors expects to increase the production volumes of the Roadster from its current 15 per week to 30 per week. The company has started to conduct global sales and marketing events and the car is becoming more widely known as the revolutionary sports car that it is in many circles. The car's acceleration is superb and its driving capabilities are world class.
Tesla Motors is now working hard on getting their next car model, a five passenger 4-door luxury sedan, called the Model 'S', to market. Like the Roadster, the Model 'S' is fully electric and runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. The new Model 'S' will be manufactured in San Jose, California in the United States. Tesla Motors also has the intention to create its own manufacturing operation for the production of electric powertrains that would be installed on its own line of cars, and possibly sold and marketed to other manufacturers as third party electric powertrains.
