Scott Addict Ltd - Carbon Exotic Racer - 6.25 kg

At the Cycle Show in Earls Court (London) in the United Kingdom last week, we had an opportunity to review the 2009 Scott Addict LTD, which is Scott's top of the range professional road-racing bike with high technology credentials. These new exotic bikes are the equivalent of Formula 1 composite material construction on two wheels.

The Addict LTD is an extremely light weight and capable road racing bike for a professional rider, or for the recreational racer. The Scott Addict LTD weighs 5.90 kg (13 lbs),and is one of the lightest road racing bikes on the market. The Addict LTD competes against the slightly heavier Bianchi's 928 Carbon SL - Super Record - weight 6.25 kg (13.75 lbs). Scott has equipped the Addict Limited with an SRAM RED component set (27-speed) consisting of the front and rear derailleurs, shift levers, brake calipers, brake shifters, and the crankset.

The Addict Ltd's frame is manufactured of HMX net carbon fibre, and when you pick this racing cycle up off the ground, it is as light as a feather. Its amazing to hold an entire bicycle in one hand with almost the feel of a tennis racket.  The seatpost is an integrated carbon fibre element of the frame itself and fixed. The front forks are also carbon fibre and use an IMP integrated carbon moulding process and weigh just 330 grams. The handlebars are Ritchey WCS Carbon and the pedals are Time RXS Ulteam TI carbon.

For the contact patch on the front and rear wheels, Scott have chosen a wheelset made by Mavic called Cosmic Ultimate Carbon and these also have carbon spokes. The tires specified are tubular Hutchinson Carbon Comp's. The Scott Addict LTD is a top of the range cycle and is one of the bikes setting the standard for cycling technology of the future. The Scott Addict LTD retails in the United Kingdom at a list price of £7499 and in Europe the cost is approximately 9500 euros.
