Sanya Richards - 2009 Female Athlete Of The Year - World Award

MONTE-CARLO, MONACO - theirEarth Sports was at the World Athletics Monaco Gala last Sunday (22 November 2009) for the announcement of the Male and Female 2009 World Athlete Of The Year. United States track star, Sanya Richards, was named the 2009 recipient for Female Athlete Of The Year. Sanya Richards set a 400 metre time of 49.00 seconds recently at the Berlin Olympic Stadium in Germany, which is the third fastest time ever run by a woman in the event.

We took this fashion photograph of Sanya after her IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) News Conference, which was presided over by IAAF Council President, Lamine Diack. At the press conference Sanya said she was delighted to have been voted 2009 Female Athlete Of The Year and that she was working hard to improve upon her performances on the track for 2010.

Richards indicated that her ultimate career goal was to run the 400 metres in 47.00 seconds and that her most immediate challenge will be to run it in 48.5 seconds. When we asked her about her training diet, she said that she eats primarily grilled (non-fried) foods and that she also limits her sugar intake. Sanya said she has already started to train for the 2010 track season and that she has been doing some long runs to get herself into shape.

In winning the 2009 Female Athlete Of The Year sanctioned by the IAAF Family vote, Sanya Richards won against a field of four other notable finalists (Yelena Isinbayeva, Valerie Vili, Blanka Vlasic, and Anita Wlodarczyk).
