No.1 Ranked Rafael Nadal - Monte-Carlo Interview
MONTE-CARLO, MONACO - The world's No. 1 ranked tennis player, Rafael Nadal from Spain, took time on Sunday to perform along with Britain's Andy Murray in a publicity tennis game near the Palace in Monaco. Nadal is in Monaco to try and take a record fifth consecutive win at the 2009 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
In an interview on Monday (April 13, 2009) in Monte-Carlo, Rafael Nadal said that he feels very good about being back in Monaco to play in this year's competition. Nadal said that he had had a few days to relax since that last tournament in Miami, and that everything was perfect for him in Monte-Carlo. When asked about his No. 1 ranking, he said that it wasn't extremely important to be No. 1 or No. 2, but instead to deliver his inner best of tennis ability in each match. Rafael says that just concentrating on playing at his best level is what gives him the best match results.
Nadal said that on clay courts, Murray was a strong competitor and that he was sure he would do well here in Monaco. Concerning his long-time rival the No. 2 ranked Roger Federer, who he beat last year in the 2008 Monte-Carlo final, Nadal said that he wasn't sure who would be the closest to his game level this year. Nadal said that possibly Federer could exceed his game on clay courts this year, but he would of course be happy to have things remain the same as last year.
