Peugeot Shows The RC HYmotion4 At Paris Auto Show
Peugeot is displaying their RC Hymotion4 hybrid concept car at the Paris Auto Show this week (see photo). The Paris Auto Show is called the 2008 Paris Mondial De L'Automobile in France, and it is held every two years in the city of Paris. The RC HYmotion4 is a showcase vehicle for Peugeot to demonstrate the effort they are putting into new technology low emissions or zero emissions vehicles (ZEV's). The RC HYmotion4 seats 4 adults, has 4 doors, and is an all-wheel drive hybrid sports GT car. It has an extremely aerodynamic profile at just 0.24 Cd (coefficient of drag).
The primary engine for Peugeot's RC HYmotion4 is a 1.6L THP gasoline motor with a maximum output power of 160 kW (218 hp), and a maximum torque of 280 Nm, or 300 Nm with overboost applied. The secondary electric hybrid motor is a synchronous permanent magnet type that provides supplementary power of 40 kW (54 hp) continuous, and 70 kW (95 hp) peak. The electric motor has a continuous torque of 102 Nm and a maximum torque of 178 Nm. The RC HYmotion4's transmission is a six speed manual.
Peugeot's goal with the RC HYmotion4 hybrid is to create a very fuel efficient high performance GT (Grand Tourisme) concept car that helps to innovate technology for their passenger vehicles, and also for their racing program. The RC HYmotion4 is equipped with Michelin P225/45 R19 tires and the fuel tank has a capacity of 50 litres. Fuel consumption is 4.5 L/100 km on the mixed highway/city cycle, and the CO2 output is 109 g/km in this mode. When driving only on the batteries in pure electric mode, the RC HYmotion4 creates zero emissions, 0 g/km CO2.
Braking on the RC HYmotion4 is 4-wheel hydraulic with regenerative braking to charge the lithium ion batteries during deceleration. The dimensions of the RC HYmotion4 are 4716 mm (15ft 6in) long , 1905 mm (6ft 3in) wide, and 1235 mm (4ft 1in) high, and weighs 1425 kg (3135 lbs).
