World's # 3 Ranked Tennis Player Novak Djokovic & Jelena Ristic
ROME, ITALY - We took this photo of No. 3 world ranked tennis star Novak Djokovic and his girlfriend Jelena Ristic at the 2009 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters Party last month in Monaco. Last weekend, Djokovic took on Rafael Nadal, ranked No. 1 in the world, at the Finals of the 2009 Rome Internazionali BNL in Italy. Djokovic was the defending champion from the Italian event last year, but in Sunday's finals, Nadal's match play was better than that of the Serbian, and Nadal continued his clay court finals winning record, scoring 7-6(2), 6-2 against Djokovic to claim the victory in Rome. For Nadal, last Sunday's win in Rome was his 15th ATP Masters 1000 career win.
Much as in his recent Rolex Masters match against Nadal in Monte-Carlo, in the Final's first set in Rome, Djokovic played very evenly against the skills of Nadal to just narrowly lose 7-6(2). In the second set however, Nadal's game consistency was too strong and very steady against Djokovic's minor errors. Djokovic's overlall performance was excellent in Rome, and if he can carry the same mental attitude of his first sets into the subsequent second and third sets of future ATP tournaments, he will certainly claim some victories against Nadal.
Novak Djokovic had the following to say about his Final's match in Rome last Sunday, "Obviously, it's his (Nadal's) patience in the certain points (that is key). When I needed to maybe stay a little bit more patient and just play the right shots, I made some unforced errors. It happens a couple of times already on this surface that I'm close, and in the deciding moments he just overcomes the pressure better than me. But that's why he's the best in the world in this moment. Overall, I'm really happy with the week."
