Nico Rosberg To Drive For Silver Arrows Mercedes-Benz F1 Team
STUTTGART, GERMANY - Mercedes-Benz announced in late November that 24-year old Nico Rosberg of Germany will drive for the re-launch of the Silver Arrows Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 team for the 2010 season. Rosberg finished seventh overall in the 2009 F1 season, with his first ever race in Formula 1 being in Bahrain in 2006, where he drove for the Williams team, setting the fastest lap of the race.
Nico says, "I am really happy to be part of the Silver Arrows re-launch in 2010 as a driver for Mercedes. No other brand in Formula 1 can look back on such a long and successful tradition in motor racing. I am very proud that I will now drive for the new Mercedes team and work with Ross Brawn. I am more motivated than ever and can hardly wait to start testing with the new Silver Arrow and for the first race of the new season at Bahrain on March 14, 2010."
The new Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow F1 team brings the successful engineering prowess of Ross Brawn's 2009 Brawn Team, recently purchased by parent company Daimler AG, and keeps the highly successful Ross Brawn as the Team Principal and its significant on-track race strategist.
Nico's father Keke Rosberg is a past Formula 1 World Champion, and Nico grew up in the racing paddocks of F1 history, and known by Mercedes-Benz VP Motorsport, Norbert Haug, as someone who he saw grow up as a child. Nico is excellent in qualifying sessions and has a keen precise consistent driving style, much like that exhibited by Michael Schumacher, but also with a touch of the late Senna when it comes to his sheer determination to conquer the race track.
