Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday '46664' Concert - Hyde Park, London

The Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Party Concert was broadcast live yesterday evening from Hyde Park, London in the United Kingdom (Friday June 27, 2008) on Mercedes-Benz IPTV. The 46664 Concert was held on the occasion of the former President of South Africa's 90th birthday to reinvigorate awareness about AIDS as a global problem that needs the world's support.

Mr Mandela's message is that "HIV AIDS is not a local issue, but a universal one", said a representative from the 46664 organisation that has organised the concert in London on behalf of Mandela. The '46664' was Mandela's prisoner number when he was held unjustly under the Apartheid system in South Africa - the 466th prisoner imprisoned in 1964.

26 global musical acts donated their talent yesterday to the Mandela 90th Birthday 46664 Concert and the list of performers was the following:

WILL SMITH, THE SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR, AMY WINEHOUSE, LEONA LEWIS, RAZORLIGHT, QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS, PAPA WEMBA, ANNIE LENNOX, EMMANUEL JAL, SUGABABES, JOHNNY CLEGG, SIPHO MABUZE, JOSH GROBAN

JAMELIA, JIVAN GASPARYAN, SUZANNA OWIYO, AMARAL, EDDY GRANT, LOYISO, ANDREA AND SHARON CORR, SIMPLE MINDS, KURT DARREN, CHILDREN OF AGAPE CHOIR, JERRY DAMMERS, JOAN BAEZ, ZUCCHERO

The rock band Queen with Paul Rodgers on vocals gave probably the best performance of the night. They opened with "One Vision" and then moved onto a superb performance of "The Show Must Go On" which was a very fitting song for the evening. Next it was "We Will Rock You" and then "We Are The Champions". They closed with "Free's All Right Now" and throughout their entire performance they had everyone in Hyde Park (approx. 50,000) rocking and singing with them. It was great to see the absolute capability of guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor mixed with the vocal talent of Paul Rodgers. Queen's performance was technically brilliant.

The Concert was presented by Mercedes-Benz and Zain, and supported by Investec and shown on Mercedes-Benz's Internet IPTV Channel, which is a high technology high bandwidth Internet entertainment channel that they have launched. See the Web Link URL for Mercedes Benz IPTV below:
