Mercedes-Benz VTT 'All Mountain' Limited Mountain Bike

STUTTGART, GERMANYtheirEarth's Cycling Editor recently reviewed Mercedes-Benz's top-of-the-line mountain bike. With a worldwide production of only 100 examples, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz 'All Mountain' VTT Limited mountain bike comes in a very distinctive black/white mat colour paint scheme. The VTT Limited is a hand-built special series production of the Mercedes-Benz VTT mountain bike, but with upgraded world-class hardware in almost every area.

Mercedes-Benz has expanded its range of bicycles for the 2010 model year and they are selling the bikes in their automotive dealerships throughout the world. The Mercedes-Benz VTT 'All Mountain' Limited cycle has a 7005 Aluminium frame with a full front and rear suspension. The front shock is a Fox RP-23 Custom (with remote lock-out), and the rear is a Fox F32 RL Remote shock, which integrates with the Mercedes-Benz patented rear fulcrum suspension design. The total weight of the VTT 'All Mountain' bike is 12.5 kg (27.5 lbs).

For gear changes on the 'All Mountain' Limited, Mercedes-Benz has specified the top-of-the line SRAM X.0 rear derailleur, and on the front the SRAM X.9 front derailleur. Shifters are the SRAM X.9 Trigger Matchmaker type. The chain is a Shimano HG 73 and the cassette is a 9-Gear Shimano HG 80 type. The rider provides the power to this transmission combination by means of a top-rated Truvativ Noir Carbon crankset (made by SRAM) for a total of 27-speeds.

The hydraulic brakes and levers are Avid Elixier CR Carbon's with large 185 mm discs front and rear. The dynamic wheel set is DT SWISS X 1800 type for the rims, hubs, and spokes. The contact patch tires are hand made by Continental of Germany and are Mountain King Supersonic 26 x 2.2" type. The seat is a Fizik Tundra model and is full leather with a high quality multi-colour look to it.

Mercedes-Benz is putting a lot of effort into their high-end cycles, and like their cars these bikes have a very high quality built-to-last construction. The Mercedes-Benz VTT 'All Mountain' Limited comes with a pump for the shock absorber and is available in S, M, and L frames (47, 50 and 53 cm). There is the distinctive Mercedes-Benz 3-pointed star on the front and 'Mercedes Benz' decal lettering on either side. The 'All Mountain' Limited is meant to turn heads and each is hand numbered for the total 100 worldwide production run. The Mercedes-Benz 'All Mountain' Limited mountain bike has a list price of 4,990 Euros (inclusive of VAT).
