Martin Brundle At The 2009 Monaco Amber Lounge Nightclub
MONTE-CARLO, MONACO - In 1983 at the British Formula 3 Championship there were two talented drivers who contested the title and these were Brazil's Ayrton Senna and Britain's Martin Brundle. Unfortunately for Brundle, Senna won the 1983 British F3 Championship, but the two both went on to compete in Formula 1 the next year. Brundle competed as an F1 driver throughout the years 1984 - 1986 on the F1 teams Tyrrell, Zakspeed, Williams, Brabham, Benetton, Ligier, McLaren, and he finished his F1 career at the Jordan team during the 1996 F1 season.
What would have been interesting to see is whether Brundle would have had a better F1 career start and possibly F1 career had it been he who won the British F3 Championship in 1983. He always had immense talent, but the best car package never seemed to be in his corner throughout his Formula 1 career. In 1994, Brundle showed his talent when he competed for McLaren and finished second to Michael Schumacher at the Monaco Grand Prix. The real expert precision driver that Martin Brundle is emerged in the 1990 24 hours of Lemans, when Brundle finished first in an XJR-12 Jaguar. Given the opportunity and perhaps 5 years of youth back, Martin would be up dicing it again with the other 2009 F1 drivers this season, and I am sure his first pick for equipment would be the Brawn Mercedes.
Today Martin Brundle is well known to F1 fans as the broadcast sports commentator for BBC's 2009 F1 worldwide race coverage, along with the 'expert pundits' former F1 driver David Coulthard and the owner of the former Jordan F1 Racing Team, Eddie Jordan. Martin Brundle began his full-time television career as an expert F1 commentator in 1997 on the ITV Network paired up with the legend Murray Walker. Always one for a laugh, even in 2009 at Amber Lounge while we were taking his photo he was joking, "Are you trying to 'pap' me" (paparazzi).
