Jenson Button Arrives At Silverstone GP With Six Wins In 2009
SILVERSTONE, UNITED KINGDOM - Entering into this weekend's British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit in the United Kingdom, Brawn Mercedes F1 driver Jenson Button stands in an enviable position, having won six of the first seven Formula 1 races held this season. In the Drivers' Championship points standings, Button leads with a total 61 points, with his next nearest rival being his team mate Rubens Barrichello with 35 points in the other Brawn Mercedes car. In the Constructors' Championship the Brawn Mercedes team is equally as dominant this season with a total 96 points achieved already this season. We captured this photo of Jenson at the 2009 Monaco Grand Prix in May, just after he had won the race there.
With his last win at the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul, it was Jenson Button's fourth win in a row, and this weekend at Silverstone he will try for five wins in a row with a home crowd who will surely be cheering him on to victory. If Jenson wins at Silverstone, he will have 71 points and an incredible seven wins so early in the 2009 F1 season.
Today in the afternoon qualifying session for Sunday's race, the pole position was taken by Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull Racing Renault car. Brawn Mercedes driver Rubens Barrichello was second, and in third place was Mark Webber in the other Red Bull Racing Renault F1 car. Jenson Button could only manage a sixth place in today's qualifying, for a starting grid third row position. Jenson is an excellent racer, and Ross Brawn is a formidable strategist, so you can be sure that the two will work hard to achieve a first place finish for tomorrow's race.
