John Whitaker Wins Spains Grand Prix Riding His Horse 'Peppermill'
VALENCIA, SPAIN - Riding his horse named 'Peppermill', Britain's John Whitaker won the Grand Prix of the 2009 Spanish Global Champions Tour in Valencia, Spain. Whitaker completed the course in 72.55 seconds, with 0 penalties and picked up 95,000 Euros in prize money for the win. In second place was Sweden's Rolf-Goran Bengtsson, riding 'Ninja La Silla', with one jumping penalty, completing the course in 74.46 seconds. Third place was taken by Austria's Edwina du Alexander on her horse 'Itot Chateau' with 4 jumping penalties and a course completion time of 65.36 seconds.
The winner, John Whitaker, had the following to say about his horse's performance and the Valencia circuit "The horse was perfect. Peppermill really likes a big track, it makes him concentrate and he couldn't have been better today. He was a bit too playful in Arezzo (Italy), as he has not competed much since the Olympics, and this is only his third show... I must say that I didn't expect to be the only double clear and I did have to sweat it out while all the others jumped, but I am happy now."
