Electric Smart Cars For Monaco
LE ROCHER, MONACO - The Principality of Monaco recently entered into a joint cooperation agreement with Daimler AG, parent company of smart cars, for the installation of ten (10) pre-production smart ed electric cars for infrastructure testing. HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco (see photo), who has a significant interest and is a strong supporter of new environmental technology applications, took the smart ed electric car on a road test during Daimler's TecDay E-Drive zero emissions cars event held in the Principality. In total, 1000 smart electric cars will be produced in 2010 for infrastructure testing in real-world conditions for cities in Europe, the United States and Canada, and the ten assigned to Monaco will be part of that initiative. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars said, "We are very proud that the Principality of Monaco as one pioneer in sustainability projects decided to count on/partner with the pioneer of zero emission mobility – the smart fortwo electric drive." Daimler says that they will start commercial full-scale production of the electric smart car in 2012 and these will be available at smart dealerships. theirEarth Motoring recently tested the smart ed electric on the streets of Monaco, and found the zero-emissions car to have excellent handling and strong appeal as an about the town vehicle. In fact, the smart electric cabriolet version that we tested will probably be the version that most will seek when it hits the showrooms in 2012. The ten smart electrics to be installed in Monaco will used by government departments like the postal and telecommunications services, and by some public service partner companies. |
