No. 3 Novak Djokovic's Beats No. 8 Fernando Verdasco In Monte-Carlo
MONTE-CARLO, MONACO - theirEarth's camera crew took this excellent photo of the worldwide No. 3 ranked Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic in his Monte-Carlo Quarter-Finals match yesterday against Spain's No. 8 ranked Fernando Verdasco. The finals for the 2009 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 1000 are on Sunday in Monaco. Novak Djokovic captured his 12th ATP World Tour title in February this year in Dubai, and finished runner-up at the ATP World Masters Tour in Miami this month (lost to Andy Murray). Coming into the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, Djokovic had a 22-8 match record on the 2009 season.
Djokovic defeated Verdasco (6-2,4-6,6-3) in a match that looked in the middle like it was moving in favour of Verdasco after Djokovic lost the second set to him. Djokovic's game started to fall apart in the second set and he was having some difficulty with his serves that were going low and hitting the net, causing double faults. Because of yesterday's rain that cancelled most matches, the players had to fit tournament doubles and singles matches into Friday's schedule, which took a lot of energy out of them for the day.
Djokovic, said that before yesterday's match, he had already played four other matches during the day. But Djokovic's tennis skills came back together for the third set and he fired off two serving aces with strong return volleys to Verdasco's back hand to win the last set 6-3, and take the match. Djokovic wore a very cool Adidas outfit yesterday, with matching bright blue aqua marine shoes and shirt.
