New GM Chevrolet Spark Arrives In 2010
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - General Motors will enter the global marketplace with a new mini-car in 2010 called the Chevrolet Spark. theirEarth sent its photography crew to the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland last month (March 3, 2009) for the launch of the new Chevrolet Spark, and we were impressed with the styling that GM had incorporated into their new car. The Chevrolet Spark will enter European showrooms in 2010 and will also make its debut in the United States later that year. General Motors says the new Spark will be a mini-car that offers outstanding fuel economy.
The new Spark is a 5-door hatchback that will be available in two engine sizes - 1.0 L and 1.2 L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder gasoline (petrol) engines. The design input for the Spark came from the Chevrolet Beat concept, which GM says 1.9 million Internet voters indicated they wanted to see produced. One of the unique interior design features is that GM engineers have mounted a motorcycle inspired instrument cluster on the steering column for aesthetics and also to achieve addition passenger cabin space.
The rear doors of the Chevrolet Spark integrate into the rear quarter panels to continue the fluidity of the external design features. The Spark is shown with the available 15 inch alloy rims and the wheel arches were designed to accommodate these larger tires for the sports appearance. The Chevrolet Spark is 3640 mm long (11 ft 11.3 in) with a wheelbase of 2375 mm (7 ft 9.5 in).
