2009 Toyota iQ To Launch At Paris Motor Show

(Updated: October 2, 2008 From The Paris Auto Show)

Toyota Motor Co. will launch the new 2009 Toyota iQ in Europe at the Paris Motor Show on October 2, 2008. Toyota's iQ is a very compact and efficient car that is just 3 metres (9ft 9in) in length. Like the smart car, it promises to solidify the trend towards efficient urban motoring. It is expected that the Toyota iQ's list price (cost), its engine options, and its fuel efficiency (MPG) will be announced at the Paris Motor Show.

The new Toyota iQ has two available engines for the European sales launch on January 2009, consisting of a gasoline (petrol) 1.0L petrol version, and a 1.4L turbo-diesel. Toyota indicates that the iQ accommodates 3+1 (3 adults and 1 child), and they have efficiently designed the iQ's interior cabin for space optimization by making components small and flush against the interior cabin. Additionally, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is very compact and mounted just above the centre console, with lower vent tubing eliminated to save space. The front seats have a thin design to free up space for rear seat passengers.

Designed as a city car, the iQ is still fast, with a top speed of 170 km/h (106.3 mph), and the body has some interesting features, like encapsulated front headlights and turn signals whose outer plastic cover integrates aerodynamically with the front body profile. The lower fuel tank is also mounted under the body with a flat pan shape profile to increase interior cabin volume.

The 1.4L 90 hp turbo diesel version of the iQ has the best fuel economy with a combined 4.0 L/100 km (58.8 U.S. MPG) city/highway rating. The gasoline 1.0L 68 hp (petrol) iQ has a combined fuel consumption is 4.2 L/100 km (56 U.S. MPG).

In France, Toyota will sell the 68 hp VVT-i 3 cylinder gas engine - 5-speed manual transmission iQ at 12,980 euros base price. For the diesel 90 hp D-4D iQ with a 6-speed manual, Toyota will offer it at a base price of 15,180 euros. In 2009 the iQ will be available in three exterior paint colours of Pearl White, Metallic Black, and Amethyst.
