Alicia Keys - World Music Awards In Monte-Carlo
The 2008 20th World Music Awards will take place in Monte-Carlo, Monaco this weekend on Sunday, November 9, 2008. Alicia Keys, the 'Superwoman of Soul', who also performed two shows at the Sporting Club in Monte-Carlo this summer (see photo) is expected back in Monaco for the 2008 World Music Awards gala event.
Opening the 2008 World Music Awards will be Beyoncé, who is having an extremely successful solo career, and broke into the business in the nineties as the lead singer of Destiny's Child. This year's host of the 20th World Music Awards will be Jesse Metcalfe, hailing from Califonia in the United States, and known internationally for his role on "Desperate Housewives", in the role of John Rowland.
The World Music Awards has two special category awards that they present each year and these are the 'Diamond Award' and the 'Legend Award'. This year, the Diamond Award goes to the Beatles and accepting the award on behalf of the band will be Ringo Starr, the Beatles' infamous drummer, who will represent the other three members of the Liverpool 'Fab Four' who are - the late John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), the late George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals). The other special category award is called, the 'Legend Award', and it goes to LA Reid, CEO of Def Jam, who is being awarded for his outstanding contribution to the music recording industry.
Music acts expected to be in attendance at the 20th World Music Awards are Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, The Killers, Kid Rock, Duffy, Laurent Wolf, Ne-Yo, Solange, Estelle, The Script, Anastacia, Madcon, and Nancy Ajram to name a few.
The 2008 World Music Awards will be broadcast in the United Kingdom on Channel 4 on Friday November 21, 2008 (evening) and it will then be repeated on Sunday November 23 (afternoon), again on Channel 4. In the United States, the show will air on MYNETWORK TV at 8 PM on December 2, 2008 with two additional showings on the same network. In Ireland, the awards will be broadcast on Sunday afternoon, November 16, 2008, on RTE.
