Akon On The Red Carpet At The 2008 World Music Awards
Akon, the very popular R&B/Hip Hop recording artist and record producer won a 2008 World Music Award for World's Best Selling Artist - Africa at the World Music Awards, held in Monte-Carlo, Monaco last weekend. Akon regularly has hits that break the Billboard Top 100, including successful number one hits. He is very popular in the United States for a musical style that mixes his African musical roots and singing style with an R&B rhythm. Akon's latest album, titled "Freedom", is expected to be released shortly, (expected release date: December 2, 2008) and is recorded on the record label Konvict Music/Universal Motown. The album "Freedom" includes the very popular track "Right Now (Na Na Na)", released as a single on September 23, 2008, and already has over 5 million hits on YouTube. In 2006, Akon's single "I Wanna Love You" of the album "Konvicted", was a duo project between Akon and Snoop Dog and it hit number one on the Billboard Top 100, holding this position for two weeks. Another very successful single from this album was the song titled "Smack That", that Akon performed with Eminem, and it hit the number 2 position on the Billboard Top 100 in 2006. |
